Community guidelines
Movie Realm is a place to discuss film and television with people who care about it. These rules keep it that way. They apply to reviews, posts, comments, polls, group chats, profiles, and anything else published in the app.
The short version
- Argue about films, not about people.
- Mark your spoilers.
- Do not post what is not yours to post.
- You must be 18 or older to take part.
What's welcome
Strong opinions, unpopular views, long reviews and short ones, disagreement, recommendations, questions, and lists. Taste is personal, and nobody is wrong for liking what they like.
What's not
- Harassment and abuse. Targeting a person: insults, threats, pile-ons, or unwanted contact after being asked to stop. Disagreeing with a review is fine; going after the reviewer is not.
- Hate. Attacks on people for who they are: race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
- Sexual content and gore. Movie Realm is not the place for explicit sexual material or gratuitous real-world violence. Discussing a film's content is fine; posting it is not.
- Piracy. Links to, or requests for, unauthorized copies of films and shows. Use the Where to watch section instead.
- Spam and scams. Flooding, repeated self-promotion, misleading links, impersonation of other people or companies.
- Other people's private information. Addresses, phone numbers, private messages, or anything else someone did not share publicly themselves.
- Unmarked spoilers. Keep plot points out of titles and opening lines, and mark them in the body. This applies to old films as well: someone is always watching for the first time.
Groups
A group's owner and admins can set the tone, remove messages, and remove members. Those decisions are theirs to make inside their group; these guidelines still apply on top of them, and a group that exists to break them will be removed.
Reporting and blocking
Every profile, post, comment, and message has a ⋯ menu with Mute, Block, and Report. Blocking is immediate and mutual. Reports come to us; we read every one, and we do not tell the reported person who reported them.
What happens when rules are broken
Depending on the severity and on whether it has happened before, we remove the content, warn the account, restrict it, or close it. Illegal content and threats of harm are removed and the account closed on the first occurrence; where the law requires it, we also report them to the authorities.
If you believe we got it wrong, write to support@movierealm.app from the email address on your account and explain what happened. A member of the team will review it.
Changes
We will update these guidelines as the community grows. The date below changes when we do, and significant changes are announced inside the app.
